Psychology based effective training for reactive dogs.
Tired of Dreading Every Walk?
Picture this: You grab the leash, heart already racing, scanning for the next dog, person, or trigger that'll send your pup into a frenzy. Lunging. Barking. That knot of embarrassment and frustration tightening with every outing. You've tried everything—YouTube fixes, prong collars, even trainers who promised the world but left you right back here, feeling guilty, anxious, and stuck wondering if your dog will ever be the chill companion you dreamed of.
You're not alone, and it's not your fault. Reactive dogs aren't "bad"—they're overwhelmed, anxious, and lacking the tools to handle their world. That's where I come in.
At Groovy Dog Training, I specialize in transforming reactive dogs using a psychology-first approach that builds real confidence from the inside out. No harsh corrections, no endless sessions—just clear markers (like my YES/GOOD/NOPE system), smart space management, and proven steps that get you both enjoying walks, cafes, and life again.
Owners go from avoiding the park to thriving there.
Your dog calm on leash? Check. You relaxed and proud? Double check.
Ready for walks that feel good?
In our first session with Ty, we focused on building trust and understanding. We worked on respecting personal space, laying the foundation for leash skills, and setting the stage for a calm, confident relationship. This is the start of Ty’s journey to overcoming separation anxiety, jumping, and leash challenges.
Lesson 2 – Ty the Cavapoo Case Study
In Lesson 2, we introduced the raised bed to give Ty a clear, safe space of his own. We worked on extending his place stay, building patience, focus, and confidence while reinforcing respect for boundaries. These skills are key steps in helping Ty become calmer, more obedient, and motivated by his kibble rewards.
In Lesson 3, we worked through Ty’s anxiety, strengthened his leash skills, and practiced extended place stays with distractions. We also focused on building his food motivation, showing how to use rewards effectively to encourage focus, confidence, and calm behavior in real-world situations.
Ty has come such a long way! In this final session, we celebrate his progress: he now has a strong food drive, walks politely on leash, stays on his place for extended periods, and no longer jumps on guests. His confidence has soared, and his separation anxiety is gone. All that’s left is consistency and practice to keep him groovy!

Training is essential because negative behaviors don’t disappear on their own. Without proper guidance, these behaviors can intensify over time and even start showing up in other areas of your dog’s life. Consistent, structured training helps prevent issues, builds confidence, and strengthens the bond between you and your dog.
Yes! Dogs of any age can learn and improve with the right training. Older dogs may take a little more patience, but they are fully capable of learning new skills, building confidence, and even breaking old habits. It’s never too late to help your dog thrive!

Safety is my top priority. I take full responsibility as the trainer, and my methods are carefully structured to prevent bites. With years of experience handling dogs of all temperaments, I rarely encounter biting incidents. Every session is designed to keep both you and your dog safe while making progress in a calm, controlled environment.
I structure my training in focused five-lesson programs, and in my experience, five weeks is the sweet spot to create lasting change. With consistent practice between sessions, most dogs show noticeable improvements during this time, setting the foundation for long-term success. YOU WILL SEE PROGRESS DAY 1.
I don’t use food as a simple motivator or bribe. Instead, I build food motivation and use treats to add value to behaviors we want to see more of. This means your dog is being rewarded for choosing to do the right thing on their own, helping them understand what behaviors are beneficial while strengthening focus, engagement, and confidence.
Every dog has a reason for their behavior—it’s never about being “bad.” For reactive or aggressive dogs, I use structured, positive training methods that focus on understanding your dog’s triggers, building confidence, and teaching alternative, desirable behaviors. I work at a pace your dog is comfortable with, using controlled socialization, clear communication, and gradual desensitization.
No. I never use choke chains, prong collars, or electronic devices. I dont need to. My training focuses on positive, structured methods that build trust, confidence, and long-term success without causing fear or discomfort.
